2025 King Charles III Coronation Medal Awarded to David Lewis

David Lewis has dedicated over 25 years to the federal public service, playing a pivotal role in advancing complex community health infrastructure initiatives. He has served within the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Indigenous Services Canada and at the Public Health Agency of Canada.

His contributions include supporting First Nations and Métis communities in Saskatchewan and Ontario during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the development of Canada’s Electronic Medical Records Strategy for remote and isolatedFirst Nations community nursing stations, and implementing the Minister’s commitments under the Mercury Care Home Framework Agreement.

A solutions-oriented leader, David has built strong, trust-based partnerships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, as well as with national Indigenous organizations, through transparency and sustained commitment. He has helped develop responsive strategies, policies, and actions to meet complex community health needs. His dedication to fostering collaborative, sustainable relationships with Indigenous  partners has been instrumental in improving access to health services and advancing Indigenous-led visions of self-governed health care.

David has been a key figure and leader in advancing the Grassy Narrows First Nation Mercury Care Home Framework Agreement on behalf of Canada. Throughout negotiations, he has demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and deep respect, supporting the community’s vision for an in-community Mercury Care Home.

Known for his compassion, empathy, and unwavering commitment, David is a rare gem—respected not only for his expertise but also for his genuine care, collaborative spirit, and deep understanding of those he serves.

In a world that is increasingly cruel and dismissive of the marginalized, it is heartening to see a service like David's being so appropriately recognized.

Congratulations to David on receiving the 2025 King Charles III Coronation Medal . Congratulations also to the other recipients in the Indigenous Services pictured with David, for their "compassion, empathy, and unwavering commitment " to all their work with the Inuits. They help make the world a little kinder and caring.

Thank you for sharing, Yvette. We share your pride.

Jo
